Topic: Gracing the Celebrated image to our Barangay Purok.
Tagged as the mother of fiesta celebration in the Philippines, our barangay had are own share of it's happenings and events. Yes, its the Barangay Sto Nino Fiesta in Zamboanga and is set on January 15 2012, every third Sunday of the first month. I must say that it is the start of continued perky activities when November approaches that extends until January. November because I will be busy with the Christmas home decoration and the activities lined up at Brent (such as the Mutya ng Kagandahan Year 4 Search) in which I was included as one of the event organizers. Then so many birthday celebrations celebrated during November and December in our family. Of course, other Christmas and New Year activities, and finally, our barangay fiesta which became as one of my annual obligation as a altar decorator.
But I did not have much difficulty with the set-up this year. Unlike last year, when I have to urgently finished the adornment in 4 days solo (see Sto Nino Fiesta 2011 for full story), this time I have about a week preparation with a help from my sister, Alen and niece, Erika. Several DIY videos on youtube where viewed and I also did the flower pattern of last year. Now, my theme color for this year is the color RED, as what the image is popularly dressed; with several red and white balloons on each side to accentuate the altar. I emphasized the name of our Purok to highlight it to our several visitors from other purok and our Barangay leaders. I have also added on its perimeter those paper flowers. For this year, I have replaced the letterings with much brighter and bolder Red colors and have changed the usual blue background.
But entirely, in behalf of my mother, the Purok leader, I would like to thank for the help extended by the Fox Family for their curtains that it help coordinate with my adornment and the electrical works. To Uncle Dodong for the temporary structure of the altar and his wife for the orchids. The structure this year looks much more sturdy and strong with a roof not unlike last year that made my adornment got wet from rain. To Cabidog's Family for the Tolda used.
Then came, January 11 2012, the date our purok will welcome the holy child. It has been our barangay's tradition to bring the image to each purok and our's was set to that date. Mass was first offered at the newly renovated Sto Nino chapel which started at 7pm. There were lots of churchgoers seen around especially kids. And though this is not my first time to attend such mass, I found it really sounding like alien with the ever-deep chavacano prayers.
From the chapel to our Purok. This time, we changed the usual route. We passed by thru the street fair on the east and out to Barangay Sto Nino main street to the San Jose Highway. Then to the gate of our Purok which we were greeted by two pyrotechnics. Our uncemented street was illuminated by lighted candles on the wall to the main altar.
The Original Barangay Sto Nino Image |
The original Barangay image was carried by our Barangay kagawad, Christopher Miranda along with several images (the one that was carried by Aunt Lita was the image I bought from Cebu (click here for story Cebu June 2011) and the image of the Fox Family.
It was not just a night of celebration of the feast, but of noise, of cheers, of reunions of the former neighborhood of the Purok Calle Bulati. And it has been an epic notion amongst the purok that even our Purok has less crowd in terms of its residents but has a much more, grand and impressive celebration.
Here are some random photos taken during that night.
Again, I would like to quote this colloquial sentence made by my mother on her Facebook account thanking the people who have in one way or the other contributed to the success of this year's Fiesta Sto Nino celebration.
