priviledge speech during the Cap and Badge Ceremony

"Our guest speaker, Madame Emmylou B. Yanga, Officer In Charge Regional Director of Comision on Higher Educ,; Dr. Abelardo C. Macrohon, Jr , the medical and college director of BHCI; Madame Blesilda F. Torralba, Dean, College of Nursing of BHCI; Madame Norma B. Pada, Associate dean for academic affairs and Head of Midwifery Department of BHCI, Rt. Rev. James B. Manguramas, the administrator of BHCI, Rev. Vicente M. Climaco, rector of Holy Trinity Parish; my highly esteemed colleagues, proud parents, ladies and gentleman, good afternoon.
It is with much honor that I was given the privilege to deliver this response for and behalf the graduating class of 2006.
Two years ago, we were very excited as we qualified for the Cap and Badge ceremony and this prepared ourselves to face more challenges ahead of us. And now with much joy in everyone’s hearts, we are in this elegant convention center for the pin and ring ceremony and soon, marching on for graduation, come April 7, 2006. We consider ourselves survivors because until this point of time, we have proven ourselves – hardworking and determined to overcome every storm of life as we move on to be professional nurse. Therefore, with competence, we can then deliver health care both to sick and well individuals. Thus, we are very proud to say that we can be globally competitive to fill in the need for nurses in the Philippines as well as abroad.
For the record, this batch had created a name for the college. Remember that Palaro 2005? When everybody was shouting on top of their voices with extreme happiness as we grabbed all the awards. The Ms. Brent 2005, the Campus SSG President, the youngest nursing student?, the most number of student nurse moms, and the most number of revalida passers. And take note, we have 100% pre-board passers and hoping fully that we will have the same result for the Nurse Licensure Examination come June 2006.
What we have accomplished over our 4 years stay at Brent can not all be measured by a grade or point, it can not be entirely conveyed with a college ring or a pin, and it is more than what our diploma or transcript of records could ever tell. Further, the quality education that we had is a kind of education which brings life to each other – solid, irreplaceable friendships with our peers and colleagues. And, yes, it can never be denied, our clinical instructors in the college of nursing have truly dedicated their time and efforts in molding us to become a better individuals and professional nurses who are commited to serve others as we all face daily challenges of life.
Now that we are nearing the shoreline of our journey, we start to feel the cold breeze of competition, temptation and the vast, wide, uncalm sea of work and life. We are also starting to be quiet apprehensive of the strifeness of the coming waves of the Nurses Licensure Examination on our feet as it will cause seas to roar. But with the driving force and power to cross the troubled sea, I personally Believe that we should fear not! For God is on our side! Let us fully trust in Him!
Friends, continue our voyage to that horizon, let us make a difference in our respective life. Rise above the stereotypes and never settle for mediocrity for we know how rough the challenges would be. By God’s unfailing love, we can soar higher than our expectations. Le Splendouor Batch of Brent Hospital and Colleges Incorporated College of Nursing - strong, smart, wit and well equipped to take the global opportunities ahead.
The very day which all of us have been waiting for has finally come to pass. It seems like only yesterday, we were like neophytes appearing apprehensive and anxious for the things that yet to come on the coming days. Just like a song, it has a beginning and it has an end. Soon and very soon, with rejoicing hearts we will be leaving the portals of this Alma Mater to soar high and explore our professions in various directions of this world.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our warm and genuine gratitude to the people who have contributed a lot to this success. First and foremost, to our Almighty God, for giving us our own family, especially my own family, who had supported us all throughout our educational endeavor. To our dearest Dean Mam Torralba who played very significant roles to where we are now. To Dean Mam Pada, for lending her ears each time we talk to her, and of course to our loving Clinical Instructors, our Sirs and Mams in the College of Nursing who were very patient in training and supervising us to become upright, competent and value oriented nurses. To the entire working force of Brent Hospital and Colleges Incorporated, our beloved Alma Mater, you will always be part of us. Personally, please also allow me for extending my sincere gratefulness to the Lhaw Uy Team, you have been my second family.
Surely, we have common feeling and that is, “we will be missing everybody” we will miss Brent College of Nursing and I am very very sure our College will also miss us so much.
